In 2023, hundreds of millions of people worldwide experienced extreme heat, and each month from June through December set a global record for the respective month. Overall, Earth was about 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit (or about 1.4 degrees Celsius) warmer in 2023 than the late 19th-century average (1951-1980) when modern record-keeping began, quoted from Nasa.gov (source: NASA). Climate change will impact everyone everywhere. Most common impacts mentioned are extreme weather events, water scarcity, degradation of biodiversity, migration of people, sea level rises, coral bleaching, changes in agricultural seasons (source: WWF).
The private sector, specifically industries in Indonesia, plays a significant role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. According to WRI Indonesia, industries in Indonesia are estimated to contribute three-quarters of the country’s total GHG emissions in 2019, highlighting the importance of decarbonisation efforts in this sector. Industrial decarbonisation will reduce emissions, transform production patterns, and promote sustainable consumption with positive environmental impacts. A conducive decarbonisation ecosystem is needed to achieve this goal, including comprehensive and accurate baselines, affordable low-carbon technologies, reliable financial and investment mechanisms, and integrated and efficient emissions governance.
Tri Hita Consulting is deeply committed to addressing these challenges through our climate change advisory, sustainable finance, and sustainable transition services. In the last decade, we have assisted industries, especially in the renewable energy, logistics, energy-intensive and mining sectors, in accounting for GHG inventories and promoting decarbonisation strategies.
