The Trajectory of Ambition: Evaluating Indonesia’s Second Nationally Determined Contribution (SNDC) 2025

Indonesia’s Second Nationally Determined Contribution (SNDC) 2025 marks a significant shift in the country’s climate ambitions. Moving away from percentage-based reduction targets, Indonesia now commits to achieving absolute emission levels through 2035. The SNDC present a pathway in which national Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions are expected to peak by 2030 and gradually decline thereafter, in line with the Long-Term Strategy for Low Carbon and Climate Resilience (LTS-LCCR) and the national goal of achieving Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060 or earlier.

While the SNDC rely on carbon sinks in the Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) sector, the government is also promoting growth in green sectors, particularly energy. Currently, Indonesia is encouraging financial institutions to increase financing for green activities, especially energy efficiency. Expanding EE financing is therefore not only aligned with priorities but also essential for translating Indonesia’s SNDC into measurable climate action.

At Tri Hita Consulting, we help organisations turn these ambitions into action. We support credible carbon management, help companies improve GHG data quality, and guide their energy efficiency initiatives.
