Strengthening ESG Practices in Indonesia’s Mining Industry

Nickel industry is a growing demand as Indonesia is committed to boost its role in clean energy development. However, the industry is inherently linked to significant environmental and social challenges. Therefore, being responsible for its sustainability operation is utmost important.

We have been trusted by Trinusa Resources to guide the company through its ESG journey. ESG strategies play a dual role: they mitigate operational and reputational risks while also positioning companies as leaders in sustainability. Recognizing that leadership buy-in is essential for driving meaningful change, Tri Hita Consulting began by conducting a series of Board of Directors coaching with the first session conducted in mid-January 2025. These sessions aim to deepen Trinusa’s leadership team’s understanding of ESG implications within the nickel mining sector while fostering awareness of the broader environmental and social responsibilities they bear. By engaging leaders at the highest level, the sessions will lay the groundwork for a company-wide commitment to sustainability.

With the main umbrella of this project is to assess the ESG gap, Tri Hita experts combine both national and international standards, plus the IRMA framework which is not explicitly designed for ESG, but it is widely regarded as one of the most comprehensive tools for assessing sustainability in the mining sector.

Through this collaboration, we are proud to learn that given its young age, Trinusa Resources tries to set things right from the beginning by reinforcing the importance of integrating ESG standards within the mining industry. Our best hope is that Trinusa will be better positioned to navigate the evolving global market and meet the growing expectations of investors, customers, and stakeholders.
