On 22 May 2026, we successfully hosted our first public training: CBAM Professional Training – Securing EU Market Access. Moderated by Peni Rahayu, the session began with a brief explanation of the policy context and the core purpose of CBAM by Verena Streitferdt, Carbon Accounting Expert on our Carbon Management Team. She walked participants through how the CBAM mechanism aims to drive global decarbonisation and work towards climate neutrality by 2050, reducing emissions and encouraging cleaner production beyond EU borders in a cost-effective, competitive manner. She also clarified the scope of CBAM, which covers both goods fully produced outside the EU and those completing production within the region, whilst explaining the necessity of purchasing CBAM certificates to maintain eligibility for importing covered products.
From there, the session moved into the methodological framework. Kurniawan, Consultant from our Carbon Management Team, provided an analytical breakdown of the two key steps in CBAM calculation. The first step involves defining boundaries through three core pillars:

🔎Ensuring unit consistency
📦Identifying product categories
The second step focuses on the actual emissions calculation, where companies can navigate between the actual value method and the default value method. He also flagged a crucial point on CBAM timing, that goods imported into the EU during 2026 must use 2026 calendar year data for the 2027 reporting period, with unverified production dates in subsequent years automatically defaulting to the year of import.
The best part of the day was the participants’ energy on screen. From the opening to the final session, the virtual room buzzed with curiosity as participants flooded the conversation with questions. That enthusiasm also showed in the feedback session. What everyone valued most was working through hands-on live case studies step by step, an approach that resonated with the participants.
