To realise a competitive and low-emission national industry, the Government of Indonesia has formulated an Industrial Decarbonisation Roadmap, which includes steel as one of nine energy-intensive priority subsectors. The roadmap sets a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction target of 34% by 2035 for the steel steel subsector.
Achieving this ambition requires companies to translate high-level targets into action on the ground, including initiative to embed strong governance at the core of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices. By doing so, companies can build trust with stakeholders, manage risks more effectively, and ensure long-term stability while contributing to Indonesia’s decarbonisation goals.
Tri Hita Consulting is working alongside industry players to make this happen.
Just last month, we collaborated with PT Indonesia Steel Tube Works (ISTW) to enhance their governance practices through a capacity-building program at their Jakarta headquarters. Thirty participants from across the organisation, including Business Development, Operations, Purchasing, Sales, Finance, IT, HR, and Logistics, took part in the sessions.

The sessions were guided by our Capacity Building Consultant, Giovanni Lucky Hartanto, together with our Governance Expert, Julia Rahmi. Designed to be interactive, the session helped participants understand not only the theoretical importance of good governance but also practical ways to apply it within ISTW’s specific context.
Participants were encouraged to review ISTW’s organisational structure, exploring how roles, responsibilities and lines of coordination could be further strengthened to support effective governance. The discussion provided fresh perspectives on how existing practices can be improved to enhance accountability and foster smoother collaboration across functions. Participants also worked together to develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across departments. The discussions highlighted how performance measures could be refined to align more closely with the company’s ESG principle.

Through this initiative, ISTW has taken another step towards embedding stronger governance within its operations, and we are proud to support them on this journey.
So, how about your organisation?
